Curriculum Vitae, or CV for short, is a document that lists a student’s contact information, educational background, employment history, gap explanation, skills, and achievements. Writing a CV is therefore not difficult, but in order to avoid errors, be sure to keep the following points in mind while writing a CV for academic purposes.
- Mention your contact information i.e. your email address, contact number, present address. So the university team can reach out to you if needed.
- Education: List the department, institution, CGPA/grades, and year of completion for each of your degrees in chronological order.
- Work Experience: List your previous employment and employment history immediately following education. Make sure to include your working hours, position, and employer. You can skip this section if you’re a new graduate because it stands to reason that you might not have prior employment.
- You may add any skills or achievements that you have but isn’t mandatory.
- Gap Explanation: This is quite important. If in case you have education gaps, you must explain the reason to why you took that gap. Also instead of labeling CV gaps negatively, consider how they might have helped you learn more about a different field or discover a new skill.
Proofread your CV before finalizing it to avoid typos.
