UK University Entry Requirements for Bangladeshi Students
UK universities consider all applications on their merit and welcome Bangladeshi students with various qualifications and experience. Bangladeshi students applying to UK universities don’t always need to take the IELTS exam either and can often provide a letter of exemption if eligible.
Foundation Programs
These are preparatory courses designed for students who don’t meet direct entry requirements for undergraduate degrees.
Academic Requirements:
Completion of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent of minimum GPA of 3.0/5.0 or above (may vary depending on the program and university).
Some foundation programs may require specific subjects in the HSC (e.g., Mathematics for engineering, Biology for healthcare-related courses).
English Language Proficiency:
IELTS: Typically, a score of 5.5 or 5 (no less than 4.5 in any component).
Other tests like PTE/TOEFL also be accepted.
Additional Considerations:
Personal Statement: A brief essay about why you want to study a particular subject.
Reference Letters: Some universities require references from your teachers or school.
Interview: Not always required, but sometimes an interview can be part of the application process.
Undergraduate Degree Programs (Direct Entry):
For students who are ready to directly enter a full university degree program.
Academic Requirements:
HSC with a GPA of 3.5/5.0 (varies by program; more competitive programs may need higher GPAs).
Alternatively, A-Levels or other international qualifications like the IB (International Baccalaureate) are accepted.
English Language Proficiency:
IELTS: Minimum 6.0 to 7.0 overall, depending on the program (higher for competitive courses).
Some universities may also accept PTE, Duolingo, Oxford ELLT.
Other Requirements:
Statement of Purpose or Personal Statement outlining your motivations for studying the program.
References: Typically, academic references from teachers.
Some universities may have interview or entrance exams (especially for specialized courses).
Postgraduate Programs (Master’s Degree)
For students with an undergraduate degree seeking to pursue a master’s degree in the UK.
Academic Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. The degree should be equivalent to a UK undergraduate degree.
The GPA should typically be 2.50/4.0 or higher, depending on the university and course.
For some programs, work experience or an undergraduate degree in a related field may be required (e.g., for business or law programs).
English Language Proficiency:
IELTS: Typically, a score of 6/6.5/7.0 overall (depending on the course).
Some universities may also accept PTE, Duolingo, MOI, Oxford ELLT.
Other Requirements:
Statement of Purpose (or Personal Statement): Explain why you are interested in the program and how your previous education or experience relates to the field of study.
References: Academic or professional references are often required.
Some courses may ask for an interview or have specific entry tests (such as for MBA programs).
Alternative Pathways for English Proficiency:
If you don’t meet the English language requirement right away, many UK universities offer pre-sessional English language courses before the main program. These courses are designed to help you improve your language skills to the necessary level.
